Not one rock, but four
Almost everyone who comes to Guatapé meets a single rock: Piedra del Peñol, climbed, photographed, and left behind. The standard day trip has taken on a bit of a Disneyland rhythm: piedra, photo, zócalos, lunch, boat, souvenir, bus, and it shows you exactly one of them.
The wider story of eastern Antioquia has four significant piedras. The famous one is only the beginning.
The four
- Piedra del Peñol — the famous one, above the reservoir. The complete climb guide is here.
- Piedra El Marial — part of the same lake-and-bike landscape, away from the crowds.
- Peñolcito — in San Vicente Ferrer, the quiet third point of the ride.
- Piedra El Tabor — farther east, in San Carlos, where the story continues.
The lake-and-bike day: three piedras, one route
Mountain Bike Colombia connects three of them — Piedra del Peñol, El Marial and Peñolcito — in a single lake-and-bike adventure. It is the clearest way to feel that these rocks are not isolated landmarks but points in one connected landscape of water, forest and farmland.
Piedra El Tabor is not on that one-day route. It sits farther east, in San Carlos, and belongs to the journey beyond Guatapé rather than the day around the reservoir.
